Riverina visits - part 2

On Day 2 I spent the morning with Ruth Greene and Robyn Honeman at Wagga Wagga TAFE.
Their team eLearn4Health (#073) has been focusing on e-learning options for teaching and learning in the Health industry and their team includes full time and sessional teachers (from a range of health fields) and a rep from the TAFE Curriculum Centre.
The learners they work with are largely workplace-based, always busy, requiring short grabs of easy to access instructional material, and sometimes with lower level literacy skills. Many areas of their work fall into the national skills shortages. Not only does this mean a shortage of emploable staff but also that those in the workplace simply cannot get release for lengthy training. The tools explored in their project have been specifically selected to address these needs. They’ve been playing with podcasts, digital stories, hot potatoes exercises etc. It wasn’t at all surprising to me to hear that most of the team had chosen digital storytelling as their favourite medium to date. I liked the look of Yack Pack that they have been exploring which although not firewall-friendly, enables voicemail to communities/groups.
You MUST check out their wiki - what a great resource, which is being used to share their learning with colleagues in industry. They are also using blogs and video to capture their learning and are keen to build on existing tools with del.icio.us, flickr and some feeds to connect. Great work team!
