Skills vs capabilities

It’s not too late to submit a proposal to present at the national WAVE (Women in Adult and Vocational Education) Conference to be held in Sydney this year on the 3 – 4 May.
This year’s theme is “Opportunities for women to position themselves within a ‘skills based’ agenda”.
What struck me, and it may be just me, was the apparent desire to make ourselves ‘fit’ into a system that is increasingly disregarding the human elements of education – the narrative, the relationships, the soft skills, the connections and capability to critically analyse and reflect. What we need to be doing is to re-position the agenda, not ourselves.
So, despite lack of computer labs, I’ll be heading off to have my say.
Who’ll join me?
