Do you really think John Howard actually posted anything on YouTube or was it in fact his political marketing machine posting on his behalf in an attempt to reach and influence others ?
Where were you when this historic occasion occurred recently ?
Clearly its an attempt to campaign to the youth voter but how successful do you think it is?
Do you really think that young people learn differently now compared to what they did say five years ago ?
Alex Miller and the Hub presented these and many other points of perspective up in Coffs Harbour which have been blogged about with style and panache’ so……..check out what Spinner has to say on the day.
Regan Harding cut us to shreds with her take on ( break - Kevin Rudd slide - break ) and Sue Waters threw the “room” into a networking spin quite unlike I’ve ever seen ever happen in an online / offline presentation….ever :-0
Jacinta Gascoigne brought us into thinking of the “outside” spaces that make up education including home schooling. I bolted when Kristin was up so apologies although I hear it rocked.
I confused myself with some generational comments and then collapsed into a plane bound for Melbourne - baggage went one way and I went the other.
NSW LearnScope Regional Events are over. Alan Levine is almost here and E-learning07 is around the corner.
No rest. No rest. This has been a HUGE year.
A HUGE thank you to all those who made NSW LearnScope Regional Events as success. You made it count and the recordings will live on.
Check them out !

Perhaps young people don’t learn differently to how they did years ago…… perhaps they do…..
Irrespective of researcher, practitioner or punter responses to this question, it belies the certainty that there’s certainly more opportunities to teach them to learn differently.
Our capacity to respond to the treasures within our young (and older!) students is undoubtedly far greater through e-learning, and enables us to move away from institution-based delivery to individual-based learning and explore any space to facilitate this in.
If it weren’t for portals, there wouldn’t be ‘outside spaces’ – and I’m not saying this is a bad thing! (A $189 million Commonwealth funded program can’t be entirely wrong.)
Whether it was John Howard or his political marketing machine posting to YouTube and whether or not its successful in appealing to the youth voter – the fact is he’s there! Whether John Howard is perceived as an online predator, contacting unsuspecting young MySpace and YouTube members, or whether he’s seen as an assiduous and contemporary PM - is just the discussion, enabled through social networking, we immortalise in the wake of our education, entertainment, communication and connection
evolution
Thanks for the regional events LearnScope
[...] On Friday September 28th, North Coast Institute of TAFE hosted Regional Event #4, for LearnScope NSW. (See the LearnScope Blog for some pic’s) [...]
I think what you’re saying Regan is very true. What we are seeing here is an acceptance at Government level of the types of social networking spaces that people (not only youth) inhabit.
By posting content into YouTube the Government has validated its use.
It’s unfortunate that they took traditional content and imported it into a totally different media/discourse. As a literacy teacher you would have noted as I did that any construction of ‘text’ needs to be designed around context, purpose and audience. This influences style and language etc.
A Prime Minister in a suit sitting behind the Institution of aloof Government is never going to meet its goal. Given the style of content in YouTube, what do you think Mr Howard should have said and how?…. perhaps we won’t go there : )
You will find that some of these Adobe Connect recordings are pretty poor quality. Other recordings were made and will be available shortly. I’ll do a post that links to all of them shortly when available
