eLearning07 Conference Centre on jokaydia!
Oct 30th, 2007 by jokay
Over the last week or two I’ve been working on a virtual conference space in Second Life for the upcoming eLearning07 Conference to be held on the 1 and 2 November (that’s this week!). We’ll be making some creative web connections during the 2 days - linking 3 spaces together for some interesting interactions and opportunities to share.

Our virtual participants in Second Life and Adobe Connect will be able to participate in some of the live events being held in Sydney at the University of New South Wales, and our live participants will be able to interact with our virtual visitors…. look out for some interesting conversations!

We’ve established a Virtual Conference Centre and Poster Display in Second Life - which includes all the fabulous artwork our teams have submitted over the last few days. These posters are not only fantastic to look at, but provide some really interesting insights into the achievements that have occured around NSW this year. Contact information is displayed on each image, and weblinks to the teams online spaces will also be installed soon, so a great way to go and hook up with both new and old LearnScope contacts too!

The highlight of eLearning07 will be the Connected Keynote Panel which is being hosted by Barbara Dieu aka Bee Kerouac live in Second Life from her home in Brazil via a special outdoor kitchen and dining area I’ve constructed for the event. Bee’s session will also be broadcast in Adobe Connect.

I’m really excited about this session - both because I know the content will be really engaging and because this type of web conferencing across platforms and spaces provides for some exciting new ways to communicate. Check out the Protopage for more info or read and respond to Bee’s first blog post about the event!
Join in on eLearning07 via our Virtual Connections
I hope that many of you who can’t join us physically in Sydney (don’t forget to register if you can make it!!) will take the opportunity to join us virtually - either on my island - jokaydia in Second Life, or via our Adobe Connect Room which has been provided by Webqem for the duration of the event. There will be a range of opportunities to take part in including:
- Some of the panel sessions will be broadcast in Second Life and Adobe Connect throughout the 2 days - we’ll post specific info on the eLearning07 Protopage shortly.
- Sean FitzGerald aka Sean McDunnough will be coordinating tours and demos in Second Life at the live venue throughout the event. Come and say hi in-world and meet him and other conference participants.
- Visit the eLearning07 Virtual Conference Centre and Poster Display on jokaydia.
- Join Kathie Warren and Alex Hayes in the Adobe Connect Room for discussions and sharing throughout the event.
- Attend our Connected Keynote Panel which is being hosted by Bee Dieu aka Bee Kerouac live in Second Life. It will also be broadcast in Adobe Connect commencing at 12:30pm on Friday 2 Nov (AEST). For our virtual participants that’s 6pm on 1/11 SL Time or you can check your local time here.
A Call to Team Members
It would be fantastic to have as many representatives as possible from our NSW LearnScope Teams in Second Life to share information about their projects during the event. We are expecting lots of visitors - both from the NSW LearnScope and Second Life communities, so this is a great opportunity to share and network.

In fact - we’d love some volunteers to help staff the Poster display during the event. If you’re interested, and would like to get involved, meet me (jokay Wollongong) in Second Life anytime between 7pm and 9pm on Tues 30 Oct 2007 at the Island of jokaydia or email me for more details. We will provide support to newbies - so this is a great opportunity for you to develop some Second Life skills too!
Join in on eLearning07 via our Virtual Connections
It’s been lots of fun creating a space for our team members and international colleagues to come to meet and interact and I hope many of you will take advantage of it! If you are new to Second Life, there are useful Getting Started resources available on the SLeducation wiki. You can setup a free, basic account to participate if you don’t have an avatar yet.
Seeya at the conference!
[...] Over the last month or so, I’ve been working with the NSW LearnScope team to prepare for their end of year festivites. The major focus of my work has been getting ready for the virtual portion of eLearning07 - the NSW LearnScope end of year event. I’ve written a detailed post about what I’ve been up to on the NSW Learnscope Blog. [...]
I had a look around the space last night, love the posters and very easy to read. It’s a great feeling to walk around and browse all the wonderful innovation inspired by Learnscope over the past year. As a current team member I would especially like to thank the NSW LearnScope team for their dedication and commitment to adopt emerging technologies in for their own events. You are all a bright lights beyond the firewall … I look forward to elearn07
Brilliant stuff Jo.
Your an amazing person and you are championing the way for us newbies…..eeek…….still detest that moniker.
I’m really keen to see the nexus between Adobe Connect and SL come together and E-learning07 is a perfect oppourtunity to explore that….as always pushing the boundaries.
Hey I’m still hiding (gratefully) behind that moniker Alex! :o)
This is truly amazing Jo and team - can’t wait to witness the action!!
Will be advertising the fun from this end too - CIT needs to sit up and take note!!

Amazing, Jo! Congratulations and thank you! I looked at about half the posters today, look forward to seeing the rest tomorrow.
Can you archive “art exhibitions” permanently in SL? This one is worth it!
Hey Jo the virtual presence in this conference is fantastic - both very innovative and practical! What a great example of how to be inclusive while providing the online participants with an equally high quality experience. Bravo!
I am attending the face-to-face event but will be connecting online where ever I can not wanting to miss the inworld experience (am almost jealous of what the virtual experience affords here
).
That reminds me -what online access is available? Wireless?
Jo,
I’m just back from wandering around the Virtual Conference Centre and Poster Display in Second Life. It’s fantastic! Not only is there an abundance of rich information but it radiates a strong sense of a vibrant and connected community. I also loved its location; I could almost feel the fresh sea breeze blowing through my hair. I’ve no doubt that this place, and the educational activities and relationships it generates, will be an inspiration to many. In admiration,
Delia.
Free wireless all round on both days.
